"We encourage all in our city to join us in seeking to build a city for peace and inclusion and rejecting intolerance, prejudice and divisiveness."
In 2008 a group of organisations and individuals established Newcastle City for Peace. They wanted to show their solidarity with one another and between diverse communities. City for Peace is not a statutory organisation. It is a not for profit organisation with supporters from the public, private and voluntary sectors. We are in the process of applying for charitable status.
We want to show that our city is committed to working towards greater understanding, respect and harmony among all its people and communities. We will do this by opposing prejudice and intolerance in all forms and working to increase social inclusion and lessen disadvantage. We aim to win the commitment of organisations and individuals to take practical action to build respect and understanding.
