Our Commitments


    We will:
  • Value people regardless of age;
  • Make sure that our practices are relevant and fair to all age groups and that judgements about ability are based on talents, skills and experience, rather than on misconceptions and prejudice;
  • Make sure decisions are not influenced by age;
  • Work to improve relations between older and younger people;
  • Challenge inappropriate comments about someone's age;
  • Avoid behaviour that could be seen as patronising or impatient;
  • Appreciate and respect older people’s have life experiences and use these as a resource;
  • Understand that some people will need more time than others.

We will not:

  • Make assumptions about what older people need;
  • Treat every older person as a 'victim';
  • Assume that because someone is frail they are unable to speak for themselves.
